Heatpoint point heating: Maximum availability in a changing climate

The era of predictable winters is behind us. Given the reality of climate change, it is crucial to be prepared for unpredictable weather challenges, ranging from extreme cold and snow to freezing rain. The Heatpoint heating system is the ultimate solution to meet these challenges head-on.

Focus on returns and sustainability

Within the rail sector, point heating is the second-largest item of expenditure on the energy bill. Our system has been specifically designed to help you achieve your sustainability goals:

Huge energy savings

Compared with conventional systems, our system will save you between 40% and 80% on your energy costs. The system only heats when it is strictly necessary.

Significant reduction in CO₂ emissions

Every percentage point saved translates directly into a huge reduction in your CO₂ emissions, which contributes to a greener infrastructure.

Extended service life

Thanks to the intelligent control system, the strain on the systems is reduced. Benefit from an expected service life of 20 to 25 years. This minimises the need for replacement parts

Smart technology and fully autonomous management

The Heatpoint system effortlessly adapts to any weather conditions by continuously analysing real-time data from critical sources.

Hyperlocal weather forecast

Every hour, the system receives an updated forecast that has been refined to cover a very small geographical area and looks up to three hours ahead.

Continuous sensor analysis

Heatpoint constantly monitors the air temperature, wind speed (for the ‘wind chill’ correction), winter precipitation and the exact temperature of the rail.

Fully automated

Thanks to the man-out-of-the-loop system, manual intervention is not required. Naturally, our advanced management software (SCADA) ensures you always retain the flexibility to intervene in real time and monitor the status.

A comprehensive, high-quality system solution

Reliability is the best way to save money. That is why we use only hardware designed for the most challenging track conditions:

Robust heating elements

Our elements are IP68-certified for protection against moisture and dirt and comply with the stringent EN 50125 standard for vibration and shock resistance. They guarantee even heat distribution without any ‘cold spots’ on the tongue rail.

Heatpoint insulation

This innovative system acts as a thermal shield. It prevents heat from escaping into the outside air, resulting in lower energy bills and providing additional snow-melting capacity during extreme storms or snowfall.

Innovative end cap

Our components feature a weld-free, stainless steel end cap with colour-coded rings. This ensures intuitive, error-free and rapid installation on the track.

Safe 48V option

Heatpoint offers transformers in a range of voltages (including 230V, 400V, 690V and 750VDC). Our 48V solution is particularly safe and eliminates persistent faults caused by insufficient electrical insulation resistance in the track section.

The various systems

Depending on the climatic conditions and the existing infrastructure, Heatpoint employs various heating techniques: electric heating (resistance elements), gas heating (infrared radiation) or liquid heating (using a central heating boiler or ground source heat) (ground source heat is not available for use in the Netherlands). The systems are energy-efficient and offer very favourable life cycle costs for clients, partly because they are controlled by a microprocessor, a weather station and a computer running user-friendly software. Heatpoint draws on more than 20 years of knowledge and experience to advise its customers and take as much work off their hands as possible, offering high-quality products at the right price and ensuring reliable deliveries.
